About the Opportunity

Due to continued and sustained demand, Gradient Services currently has a newly created opportunity for a Technical Sales Engineer to expand their team into QLD, working on a full-time permanent basis.

You will have the opportunity to Work from Home from anywhere between Townsville and the QLD/NSW border, with potential to establish your own local office, depending on your success in the role.

Reporting to the Managing Director, you will be responsible for managing and developing a large pipeline of new and existing client relationships, consisting of large processing plants, mines and engineering shops.

Some of your key responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Utilising a combination of technical expertise and sales/relationship building methods, via face to face, over the phone and email to attract new and pre-existing business;
  • Managing client accounts and maintaining a client database profile;
  • Preparing tender/quotation submissions in conjunction with the engineering team;
  • Analysing client enquires and tenders to identify how equipment should be manufactured;
  • Interpreting and analysing client manufacturing drawings;
  • Discussing the manufacture of equipment with clients, consulting on any issues that might occur, and assisting contractors during the manufacturing process to solve any problems, should they occur; and
  • Assisting in the implementation and continuous application of the marketing plan.

Please Note: Due to the face-to-face nature of the role and dispersed nature of clients, the successful candidate must be comfortable working on the road roughly 2 weeks out of every month, largely throughout Queensland, but potentially nationally and internationally where required.

About You

To be considered for this position, you must have a background in the mining, manufacturing, or closely related industry, and demonstrable experience in sales/business development/account management. Relevant tertiary qualifications in mechanical engineering or similar will also be required.

As a customer facing, technical sales role, you will need an in depth understanding of metals and engineering principles, ideally including metallurgy. In order to establish sales leads you will use your engineering design skills to identify products to be improved to the clients requirements.

Moreover, as a largely autonomous role with freedom to establish and grow your own market, you will need to be self-driven, with high level negotiation and relationship management skills, including an ability to influence outcomes and establish mutually-beneficial customer partnerships.

With a strategic mindset, you will be driven towards identifying areas for new business growth and development, acting as a trail blazer in the expansion of Gradient Services client base, both within QLD and throughout greater Oceania.

While an understanding of Solidworks would be seen as advantageous, it is not essential.
